ANDY RICE Chairman
Andy Rice graduated from Cambridge University longer ago than he cares to recall. His subsequent career has been spent entirely in marketing and advertising, eventually becoming Director of Strategic Planning at Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg. He left O&M in 1995 to establish a freelance strategic planning consultancy and founded Yellowwood two years later. Andy is often invited as a guest speaker or lecturer and continues to play a very active role in the marketing and advertising world through participation on various panels as judge or chairperson e.g. Apex, the Loeries, FM Adfocus, PRISM etc.

Andy is one of the most respected brand and communications strategists in the country and continues to feature as one of the most influential people in the industry every year.

He holds the role of Chairman of Yellowwood and is actively involved in acquiring clients and high level strategic intervention.

Andy's dry humour and direct insights puts him around most boardroom tables in the country and his integrity is widely respected.

KAY NASH CEO
Kay Nash is a well recognised strategy leader and larger than life personality in the industry. In her previous life, Kay spent four years with Enterprise IG as Group Managing Director and Deputy CEO of Africa Middle East and steered the business through two international sales and full operational re-engineering while maintaining their local market leadership.

Kay was also the Managing Director of Enterprise Connection and Group Marketing Director of Incredible Connection and experienced the IT industry first hand as they disposed of eleven business globally and rebuilt the group.

Kay served her time in the advertising industry as Group head of strategy FCB for three years. She also ran her own marketing consultancy in the UK for five years. Her early career in FMCG was with SA Breweries and Cadbury Schweppes having received an academic scholarship with Honours in Business Science and a long list of committees and achievements at UCT.

Kay regularly lectures in marketing and leadership, is a classical pianist, fanatical reader, a mother of two teenagers, a baby and multiple pets.

NICKY STEEL Senior Strategist
Nicky Steel is a Senior Strategist at Yellowwood Future Architects.

Before joining Yellowwood, Nicky's career had been focussed in traditional brand marketing at blue chip FMCG companies. In 2007 she returned to South Africa from the UK where she'd been working for Unilever UK for 7 years on brands such as PG Tips tea, Lipton, Flora, Walls, Persil, to name a few. Her experience includes both Brand Management and Customer (Trade) Marketing, in both the UK & Western European markets. Prior to that she worked for Kraft Foods in their MEA Marketing Division, also based in the UK; and Procter & Gamble, SA – where she learnt more about babies nappies than any new university graduate should know!
Nicky qualified from University of Cape Town in 1996 with a Business Science Marketing Honours degree.

Any spare time Nicky can find is spent running, cycling, swimming and triathlon-ing and if there's time after that, a round of golf or game of tennis.


IVAN MOROKE Group Managing Director
Ivan Moroke started his career in marketing at British American Tobacco, working his way through various divisions including sales, brand promotions, CRM and sponsorship. His move to international strategic marketing consultancy, Added Value, allowed him to fast-track his strategic brand marketing skills. He then moved to the agency environment, as a senior strategic planner for OIL, the strategic planning and research arm of Lowe Bull Group. He soon became a board director of the agency, and OIL's strategic director.

In April 2006 Ivan was made MD of Lowe Bull Johannesburg. He recently joined Yellowwood as Group Managing Director. Ivan has worked in diverse sectors which including banking, insurance, fuel, liquor, fast food, tobacco, groceries and soft drinks.

JENNY MOORE Insight & information Director
Jenny studied Microbiology & Genetics at University of Stellenbosch, where she discovered her passion for the question "Why?" When she moved to Johannesburg, she joined Research Surveys (RS) and spent four years acquiring the skills of a market researcher , swapping microbes for people, under the microscope.

Extending her experience base she then joined FCB South Africa in the strategic department as the Research Portfolio Director.

From here she moved to Millward Brown Impact where she was Account Director on the Unilever business. Jenny is a rigorous and talented head of the "microscope" function and heads up a team of curiosity specialists

MARISKA OOSTHUIZEN Strategist
After obtaining a BProc Law degree from RAU, Mariska decided to do something a little more creative and exciting and joined the crazy world of advertising. She started her career at Ogilvy, Mather, Rightford, Searle-Tripp and Makin where she earned her wings in Account Management. During her nine years in advertising she spent time in many of our country's top Agencies and gained experience on a diverse portfolio of clients in her role as Business Director.

Mariska joined Yellowwood at the beginning of 2006 when she decided to follow her heart and pursue a career in strategic consulting for which she has always had a passion. After a three and a half month soul searching trip through South America, Mariska briefly strayed back into advertising as Strategic Creative Director at Metropolitan Repubic. She quickly returned and has now been back with Yellowwood in the Johannesburg office for a year.

She has a love for life and wants to experience everything, believe in something and regret nothing. Mariska is based in Cape Town


RICHARD STONE Creative Director
After studying fine arts and information design, Richard Stone has been involved with brand design since 1997. His experience include a wide range of brand design disciplines and categories including corporate and financial services, parastatal, retail, hospitality, automotive, telecoms, petrochemical, FMCG as well as cultural design.

Richard has gained specialist design experience in London and Paris and held the position of Creative Director at Enterprise IG.

Richard is currently a part-time graduate course lecturer in communication design and is an avid reader, unconventional thinker and a recognised intellectual and creative leader in the industry.


SONJA LOMBARD Project Manager
Sonja has spent over twenty years working as the assistant to senior executives of both national and international corporations ranging from exhausts and music to luxury goods. She joined Kay Nash in 2001 whilst at Enterprice IG and assisted in establishing Future Architects at its inception in 2004. Sonja has moved into the project management and coordinator role for the Group since 2006.

Sonja is a confident and energetic individual and enjoys the skills and challenges that come with managing projects, people and resources, no matter how both big and small.

MOAGI BODIBE Strategist
Moagi graduated from Rhodes University in 2002 with a BA Journalism degree where he completed a triple major in Journalism, Politics and Philosophy. Grahamstown may be a small town, but bigger experiences awaited him. In 2003 he was chosen to join the Johncom Pearson Graduate Training Programme in Financial Journalism and rounded this off with a six month internship at BDFM's Financial Mail.

Moagi left the Johncom stable to join rival Media 24's family magazine division where he rose rapidly to become Deputy Editor of Drum magazine. While at Drum he gained insights into magazine publishing and positioning strategies. His media and magazine publishing experience includes a two year stint as a Sappi Pica Awards c ommittee member. Moagi left the world of magazine publishing to reinvent and himself at Yellowood, where he is exploring and developing his interests in brand strategy.

In his spare time Moagi can be found at numerous live music haunts where he fulfills one of his other passions; listening to contemporary South African music and particularly of the jazz persuasion. In short he believes in Mzansi's immense creative potential.

CAROL AVENANT Strategist
Carol has brought with her extensive experience working on major brands in the dairy, pharmaceutical & education markets.

Fresh out of University, Carol learned everything there is to know about cheese in her role as Product Manager at Clover SA. Here she managed major brands such as Clover, Elite, Tusser's, to name a few. After four years, she decided to spread her wings and expanded her brand, PR and marketing experience in the Pharmaceutical industry working for Pfizer & then Adcock Ingram.

In 2005, Carol decided to take learning a step further and joined the Education Industry in a role as a Marketing and PR manager for Educor and later a similar role at Advtech Limited. In between her busy career, Carol volunteered her time to Johannesburg General Hospital working with kids in the cardiovascular ICU.

Carol qualified from Potchefstroom University in 1998 with a Marketing and Financial Honours degree. When she is not working, you will find her reading, playing the piano or trying to improve her golf swing.

MPUME NGOBESE Client Service: Design
In a world where business increasingly requires innovative solutions with practical outcomes, Mpume is a rare personality that combines street-wise edge and down-to-earth wisdom, the right duality to ensure that Yellowwood design delivers on both creativity and business requirements. Her experience is vested in both customer and brand marketing and aims to gain a broad knowledge base that will assist in her in becoming a business owner.

She completed her BCom Hons degree in Marketing Management with majors in corporate strategy, change management, project management and training and development. She gained invaluable experience in publishing during her time at Johnnic in the media training department. A career move to advertising broadened her skills set to include TTL experience in financial services [SA Home Loans] and BTL experience on a diverse portfolio of brands including Lifelab, Knorr, Robertsons, Sunsilk and Omo.

Mpume keeps her mind and her heart open to the forces that move the world and she seeks to understand the impact that they have on particularly music, culture, fashion and design.
